Most garage floors look fine until you really look at them. Stains that won't scrub out. Cracks running wall to wall. Concrete that's just slowly getting worse. That was the situation here in Orinda - a floor that had clearly seen better days and needed real prep work before anything else could happen.

Here's what we were working with: a concrete slab covered in heavy cracking throughout the entire surface. Before any coating goes down, that all has to be addressed. We ground the floor with a diamond grinder to open up the concrete and get it ready to accept the epoxy system, then filled the cracks so the finished surface would be solid and stable. Skipping that step is how coatings fail. We don't skip it.

Once the prep was done, we installed a full flake epoxy flooring system using a gray and white flake blend. The color chips get broadcast into the base coat, then the whole thing gets locked in with a topcoat that gives you that clean, low-gloss sheen. The result is a floor that's easy to clean, resistant to oil and stains, and tough enough to handle daily use without showing wear.

What makes flake epoxy a smart choice for garage floors is that it works as hard as it looks. The texture adds slip resistance, the topcoat protects against chemicals and moisture, and the flake pattern does a solid job of hiding the occasional scuff or dirt between cleanings. For a garage that actually gets used - not just parked in - it holds up well over time.

This Orinda garage floor went from cracked, stained concrete to a finished space that looks sharp and is genuinely built to last. If your garage floor is at that point where you're tired of looking at it, a garage floor coating like this is worth considering.
